Why Can't We Be Good?

Last night, everything changed. My friends and I helped a druggie Woman get home--- it was clear that she didn't want us to call the cops (she was running from her boyfriend, who attacked her). The reason why is because she was hiiigggggghhhhh on Coke. So high she started talking about Star Trek. Yeah. By the way she said she was Christian. That explains a lot. Christians believe that Jesus died for their sins and then rose up the third day. But then this begs the question-- If Jesus really did die for everyone's sins, why can't we sin? Therefore Christians are free to do anything they want.

Just a side note, the Christian story is not unique, Innana (A Sumerian Goddess) was also crucified and resurrected the third day. The Sumerians used to worship her and this story goes back 1500 B.C.E

ANYWAYS-- this got me thinking-- why can't we be good? Why can't we NOT do drugs, drink, etc. Has society really begin to sink morally?

Recently I saw a very dark and depressing movie called Leaving Las Vegas. See this movie, it will make you appreciate your life. But this movie shows just how low both men and women get go here in America.

Also The woman continued to stay with her boyfriend-- even though she was being abused over and over and over. I just don't get it. Do women really like this kind of thing? I was told yes, Women really like the bad boys. However I always considered myself a good guy, nice to everyone who is nice to me. I remember the Quran has that in order to gain salvation you must have faith and do good works. And to me doing good works is being kind to others (as long as they are kind to me). I also remember the words of Prophet Muhammad telling to treat others good:

.......and Allah is merciful only to those of His slaves who are merciful (to others). (Bukarhi Volume 2, Book 23, Number 373)

If I keep treating Women badly, will they like me more? I certainly hope not, as in Islam we are told to treat women nicely:

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah 's Apostle said, "Treat women nicely, for a women is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely." (Bukarhi Volume 4, Book 55, Number 548)

But the point of this is not to discuss religion (As I have promised not to discuss religion on this blog). Its the discuss the problem of evil within ourselves. What drives us to commit so much evil and bad towards others and how can it be controlled?

Life Changes, Friends Don't.

Yo. Ehteshaam Gulam here. Today I realized something important-- life will always change but your friends won't. What I mean by this is as time goes on you soon realize that

a) You can't get along with everyone on earth. There's always going to be some people who you just can't get along with even if your nice to them 24/7.

b) You can't save everyone.

c) As time goes on you realize who your real friends are and who your "fake" friends are.

Today made me realize A,B and C for one individual I was once very close with for 7 years. But now the friendship is gone as he has changed-- but this made me realize that sometimes things in life change-- but your real friends--- they don't. Thank Allah (God).

Ehteshaam Out.

Camping

Back from Camping, and still sore from the games and sports. I had much to do, including looking over a bunch of 18-19 year olds-- which was actually harder than it sounded like. Anyways it was fun and I had a good time. I went camping at Camp Ohyseia in Holly, Michigan.

Activities included:

Zip lining: Gliding from a harness.

Canoeing: Almost tipped over and fell--- and got splashed quite a lot.

Outdoor Dodgeball: I love dodgeball.

Soccer: I hate soccer.

Mission impossibe: It's a game in which you have to do a bunch of activities and avoid being hunted down by the reaper who will kill you if he touches you with flour. If you get touched then you have to wait for the medic to cure you. Very fun.

Overall I had a good time. Hope to do it next year.

Till next time,
